Attest Services

Are peer review services considered to be attest services?

No, peer review services are not attest services.  Peer review is a confidential service offered to firms.  Firms participate in the peer review program to ensure the quality of the reports they issue.  Peer review reports are confidential and are not prepared for third party use.  Peer reviews are focused on post-issued reports.

Are compilation reports without disclosure considered attest services?

Yes.  The first paragraph of the compilation report states that the compilation is done in accordance with Statements on Standards for Accounting and Review Services (SSARS).  Reports issued in accordance with SSARS are attest reports.

Are compilation reports where the CPA discloses they are not independent considered attest services?

Yes.  The first paragraph of the compilation report states that the compilation is done in accordance with Statements on Standards for Accounting and Review Services (SSARS).  Reports issued in accordance with SSARS are attest reports.

Are management use only compilation reports issued under Statements on Standards for Accounting and Review Services (SSARS) 8 considered attest services?

Yes, because a compilation report is issued and the first paragraph of the compilation report states that the compilation is done in accordance with Statements on Standards for Accounting and Review Services (SSARS).  Reports issued in accordance with SSARS are attest reports.

Are management use only financial statements issued under Statements on Standards for Accounting and Review Services (SSARS) 8 considered attest services?

Yes, because an abbreviated form of the compilation report is included in the engagement letter.
