2008 Board Officers and Members
At its
October 2007 annual meeting
the Washington State Board of Accountancy elected the Board officers for
2008. The Board
elected Edwin G.
Jolicoeur, CPA, LeMaster & Daniels PLLC, Spokane, to chair the Board during
2008. The Board's chair handles many procedural duties,
including presiding at rules and disciplinary hearings, in addition to the tasks performed
by all Board Members. Board members elected Laurie J.
Tish, CPA, Moss Adams LLP, Seattle, as vice-chair for
2008. The vice-chair presides over hearings
in the chairs absence. The Board elected Gerald
Ryles as secretary.
The Board is currently composed of
nine members appointed by
the Governor to serve three-year terms. The following highlights the background of the
current members of the Washington State Board of Accountancy:
Donald
F. Aubrey, CPA, Rebar & Associates, Seattle.
On October 1, 2007 Governor
Christine Gregoire appointed Donald F. Aubrey to the Washington State Board of Accountancy.
Don graduated from Idaho State
University in 1973 with a Bachelor's Degree in accounting and obtained an MS
in Taxation from Golden Gate University (GGU) in 1984. He was selected
by GGU as the outstanding graduate from their MS program in 1984.
Don started his accounting career with
Price Waterhouse in Seattle in 1973 and began specializing in tax in 1976.
In 1979 he joined the local accounting firm of Ansell Johnson & Co.
Three years later he helped form the firm of Aubrey, Bourne & Freidig
and managed the tax department. In the fall of 1987 Don was selected by
Money Magazine as one of the top tax accountants in the United States. He
also had a weekly tax planning program on KIRO radio in Seattle, hosted by
Dave Ross. In 1988 AB&F merged into BDO Seidman, LLP. While at BDO, Don
was in charge of the Firm's Tax Level III CPE program. He helped develop
instruction materials and teach classes for BDO's tax seniors. Don was
selected as the program's outstanding instructor for three of the five years
he participated in the program. Don also contributed to the development of
the firm's quality control manual and assisted in the tax quality control
review of other BDO offices. After 15 years in the Seattle office of
BDO Seidman, LLP, Don transferred to the Menlo Park, California office and
managed a tax practice specializing in serving high wealth
individuals. Don retired from BDO in 2005 and returned to Seattle. He
currently works as a Tax Director for Rebar & Associates in Seattle.
In 1978 Don and his family joined the
Seattle Area Special Olympics Games Committee. For over 25 years the Aubreys
produced track, skiing, softball, volleyball, bowling, sailing, swimming,
basketball, and gymnastics events. In 1994 Don was recognized for
distinguished volunteer service by Washington State Special Olympics. Don
also enjoys mountain climbing. He has climbed all eleven volcanoes in
the Cascades with elevations in excess of 10,000 ft. Don has been
actively involved with the Washington Society of Certified Public
Accountants (WSCPA). He is a past treasurer of the WSCPA, has served on the
Board of Directors, and has been a member of the Finance Committee for over
nine years. In 1998 the WSCPA awarded Don the Distinguished Service Award.
Don holds a valid Washington State
CPA license to practice public accounting.
Robin Clark,
CPA, Poulsbo.
In 2001 Governor Gary Locke appointed
Robin A. Clark, CPA, to the Washington State Board of Accountancy. Governor Locke reappointed
Robin to the Board in May 2004 and again in October 2007. Robin
recently retired as a Financial
Liaison Advisor with the Department of Defense.
Robin graduated from the University of Washington in 1985 with Master of
Professional Accountancy (MPAcc) and Master of Business Administration (MBA)
degrees. She was an adjunct professor at Central Washington University's
extension in Seattle from 1990 through 1995 where she taught Advanced
Accounting.
Robin has been involved with the
Board's activities on Equivalent Experience since 1987 when the Board first
formed a subcommittee for this area. Robin chaired the Equivalent Experience
Committee and has participated in the Experience Committee since its
formation. Robin was a member of the Washington Society of CPA's
Auditing, Accounting, and Review Standards Committee from 1987 through 2000.
Robin has served as Treasurer for
Treehouse (an organization for foster children) and Artists Unlimited (an
organization to provide experience for artists with disabilities). She has
also been a Child Mentor with Rise-n-Shine (an organization for children
affected by HIV and AIDS) since 1994.
Robin holds a valid Washington State CPA license to practice public
accounting.
Robert
G. Hutchins, Attorney at Law, Tacoma
On June 6, 2008, Governor Christine
Gregoire appointed Robert G. Hutchins to the Washington State Board of
Accountancy for a three-year term. Robert is a self-employed attorney
practicing in Tacoma since 1965. His
practice is devoted to private company finance and mergers and acquisitions
law.
Robert was
a member of the Adjunct Faculty for Business Law at Tacoma Community College
from 1968-1969, and a board member (1988-1994) and chair
(1991-1992) of the Pierce County Community Development Corp. He served as a board member of the
Pierce County Library Foundation during 2005-2006. Robert is currently a
member of the Washington State and American Bar Associations.
Lauren Jassny,
The Commerce Bank of Washington,
Seattle
On April 6, 2006
Governor Christine Gregoire appointed Lauren to the Board to
represent the interests of clients of individuals and firms licensed under
the Public Accountancy Act. Governor Gregoire reappointed Lauren to
the Board on April 12, 2007. Lauren
is the Chief Credit Officer and CRA Officer with the Commerce Bank of
Washington
Current activities include membership
with the Risk Management Association and service with Pioneer Human Services
and Kline-Galland Center/Foundation. Lauren previously served on
the Board of Directors of the King County Sexual Assault Resource Center and
during 2002 and 2003 Lauren
served on the Board's Independence
Committee.
Edwin
Jolicoeur, CPA, CFE, LeMaster & Daniels, PLLC, Spokane.
On June 6, 2005 Governor Christine
Gregoire appointed Edwin G. Jolicoeur to the Washington State Board of
Accountancy. Governor
Gregoire reappointed Ed to the Board on April 12, 2007. Ed is an owner/member of the CPA firm LeMaster &
Daniels PLLC and is the firm's director of quality control/accounting and
auditing.
Ed is a member of the Washington
Society of Certified Public Accountants (WSCPA), the American Institute of
Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), and the Association of Certified Fraud
Examiners. He has served on a variety of technical and leadership
committees and boards of the WSCPA and the AICPA.
Ed holds a valid Washington State CPA license to practice public accounting and is also licensed to practice in the states of Idaho and Montana.
He is also a Certified Fraud Examiner.
Mark W. Pearson, Seattle, Ernst & Young LLP
On December 19, 2007 Governor
Christine Gregoire appointed Mark W. Pearson to the Washington State Board of Accountancy.
Mark graduated from Central Washington
University in 1973 with a Bachelor's Degree in accounting.
Mark has been employed by Ernst &
Young in various capacities since 1973 with a two-year break from 1983-1985
when he served as a Practice Fellow at the Financial Accounting Standards
Board in Connecticut.
Mark is currently a member of the AICPA and Washington Society of
CPAs. He is also the current Chair of the Central Washington
University Foundation Board of Directors.
Mark holds a valid Washington State
CPA license to practice public accounting.
Gerald F. Ryles,
Kirkland
On August 15, 2006
Governor Christine Gregoire appointed
Gerald Ryles to the Board to
represent the interests of clients of individuals and firms licensed under
the Public Accountancy Act. Jerry retired in 2003 after 41 years working for several companies across a broad
range of industries. He has served on a number of company Boards of
Directors, both private and public. Mr. Ryles has also been active in
a number of public service activities for many years, particularly at the
University of Washington.
Current activities include volunteer Board service with Halifax Corporation, audit and compensation
committees for Giant Campus, and chairman of the audit committee for Zumiez,
Inc.
Mr. Ryles is a native of Eastern Washington. He received his
Bachelor of Arts from the University of Washington and his Masters in
Business Administration from Harvard University.
Ronald D. Sabado, CPA, CMA, Highline
Community College
Governor
Gary Locke appointed Ron to the Washington State Board of
Accountancy on February 18, 2002. Governor Locke reappointed Ron to the Board in
April 2004
and again in October 2007. Ron is on the faculty of Highline
Community College where he teaches accounting.
He also teaches financial aspects of contracts and understanding
financial information for the University of
Washington Extension Program.
Ron
was honored with Central Washington University's College
of Business 2007 "Advancing the Dream" award. He is the 10th recipient of the
"Advancing the Dream" award established
to recognize the outstanding contributions of professors in community
colleges across Washington who work with students from a variety of
backgrounds, capabilities and aspirations.
Prior to joining Highline, Ron was an audit manager for the Defense Contract Audit
Agency. Ron graduated from the
University of Washington in 1973 with Bachelor of Arts in Business
Administration with emphasis in accounting and from Central Michigan
University in 1999 with Master of Science in Administration.
Ron is
a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Washington
Society Certified Public Accountants, Institute of Management Accountants, and
the National Contract Management Association. Ron and has held his
Washington State CPA license since 1977 and also a Certified Management
Accountant (CMA) certificate since 1993.
For 27
years, Ron has been active in youth soccer and has served in various jobs in
soccer club administration but always returns to his first love – coaching.
Ron
holds a valid
Washington State CPA license to practice public accounting.
Laurie J.
Tish, CPA, Moss Adams LLP, Seattle.
On May 25, 2005 Governor Christine
Gregoire appointed Laurie J. Tish, CPA, to the Washington State Board of
Accountancy. On June 6, 2008, the Governor reappointed
Laurie to the Board for a three-year term.
Previously Laurie served as a Board
member from December 11, 1997 through November 18, 2003.
Laurie holds a valid
Washington State CPA license to practice public accounting and is also
licensed in the Territory of American Samoa. |
