Have you practiced public accounting for 3 of the last 5 years or for 5 of the last 10 years?

Yes

Then you need to:

  1. Request the verification of your license information be sent to the Board, including your license status and CPA exam scores from the Board of Accountancy where you are currently licensed.
  2. Submit verification that you have passed the AICPA's self-study course "Professional Ethics: the AICPA's Comprehensive Course" or the California Foundation's Ethics Exam with a grade of 90% or better.
  3. Verify that you practiced public accounting for 3 of the last 5 years or for 5 of the last 10 years by submitting one or more of the following:
    • Copies of IRS Form 1040, Schedule C (or equivalent from corporate or partnership returns), and/or
    • Letter(s) from employer(s) stating you were in the practice of public accounting, and/or
    • A complete "Experience Affidavit-Public" (PDF 70kb) form documenting a minimum of 12 months (consisting of at least 2000 hours) of public accounting experience.
  4. Certify that you completed 120 hours of Continuing Professional Education (CPE), limited to 24 hours of nontechnical subjects, after you were licensed as a CPA and within the 36 months immediately preceding application
  5. Submit a complete application to the Board

You may not use the title CPA in Washington State until your license is posted on the Board's Licensee Search.
