CPA Exam

What is the CPA exam? The Uniform CPA Examination is a professional licensing examination used by all state accountancy boards to ensure CPA applicants possess at least a threshold mastery of technical knowledge needed to enter the CPA profession.


Steps to take the CPA exam

  1. Meet the Education Requirements
  2. Begin by reviewing:
    • The official handbook published by the CPA Examination partners (AICPA, NASBA, and Prometric).

  3. Apply for the exam
    As of January 1, 2010 the Board contracts with CPA Exam Services (CPAES) for application processing for Washington's CPA exam applicants. You may obtain an application, information, or apply online at:

    Effective January 1, 2010 - The Washington State Board of Accountancy will contract with CPA Examination Services (CPAES) for application processing for Washington's CPA exam applicants.

    Castle Worldwide Services will no longer provide application processing services to Washington’s CPA exam applicants.

    Candidates who tested in the October/November 2009 window will receive their scores thru Castle Worldwide Services.

    Candidates currently scheduled to test after January 1, 2010 or those with a valid Notice to Schedule (NTS) issued thru Castle Worldwide Services will continue to test with the same NTS issued by Castle Worldwide Services.
